RESTAURANTS
AND TRADITIONAL CUISINE

Villa Gaviel is strategically located to also enjoy the typical dishes of wonderful Sardinia, but you’ll be spoiled for choice.

Sardinian cuisine is deeply rooted in ancient traditions, and some dishes are truly elaborate. Even though the same dish may be presented differently depending on the region of Sardinia, the essence is simple: they are all delicious! Want a taste? From the well-known first courses like culurgiones and malloreddus, you move on to the less-known but tasty Gallurese soup and the unique pane frattau; as for local meats, remember that the population is predominantly pastoral, with porceddu being certainly the most famous, but lamb and sheep are also common; as for fresh fish, in “our” area, mussels are famous, huge and tasty. Olbia hosts a well-known stable from which products are distributed even outside of Sardinia, and let’s not forget the excellent clams, octopus, and squid. And to conclude, don’t leave without trying the typical Sardinian sweets, like amaretti in the lead, but also savoiardi (great even with cappuccino). Finally, seadas, known in the south as sebadas, accompanied by Sardinian honey—I suggest strawberry tree honey, a unique flavor.

And then the dream of the area: dinner on Tavolara! A unique experience for families, where children can play on the beach between courses. Romantic if you’re traveling with your partner, equally incredible for your evening with friends. The sunset crossing to reach the island serves as an appetizer, the colors are incredible. Remember, when you book the restaurant, also reserve your spot on the boat from Porto San Paolo, otherwise you might risk staying on the island for the night…

There are only two restaurants on the island: the historic Ristorante da Tonino, Re di Tavolara, excellent cuisine in a convivial atmosphere and who knows, you might even meet Tonino, the current king of Tavolara: https://www.ristorantereditavolara.com/. Otherwise: Ristorante Lounge Bar La Corona—a very refined place, I don’t know it because the other one has become a fixed stop, but the menu is special: http://www.lacoronatavolara.com/

A special mention goes to the Agriturismo il Vermentino, no guest has ever been disappointed by this “gem” in the Sardinian hinterland, just 35 minutes from Villa Gaviel. A suggestion, the courses are appetizing and numerous….http://www.agriturismoilvermentino.com/ I’ve known the owner for over 40 years, I still love enjoying their typical dishes of Gallura with company as I did the first day and the ancient traditions of Sardinian cuisine in a friendly but welcoming environment. I suggest a table outside so you can enjoy your dinner to the fullest, perhaps in the coolness under the splendid olive tree, the farmhouse is located on a hill, a cool oasis even in the height of summer. Only products of their own production are served, thus also seasonal ones. Even the wines, myrtle, and the unpronounceable Filu and Ferru come from their Cantina Tani. Their Myrtle, in my opinion, is unmatched in consistency and flavor. I see that guests of the restaurant always buy one or more bottles, I guess I’m not the only one who likes it…

In this small center, the opportunities are more than one, but I highlight:

just a little further, in nearby Porto San Paolo, a table with a view at the restaurant il Portolano, https://www.ristoranteilportolano.it splendid view of Tavolara Island and an interesting menu. And after dinner, I suggest taking a walk in Piazzetta; the view is also amazing from here, and there are often events too.
If the idea of “dining on the beach” appeals to you, I suggest considering Porto Taverna, less than 10 km from Villa Gaviel, perhaps at sunset for your aperitif or dinner with a view of Tavolara with solutions that, in my opinion, are delightful: http://www.mare-azzurro.net/chiosco-porto-taverna oppure alla https://www.tavernettabeach.com/, for your barbecue: https://ristoranteportotaverna.it/; another excellent option: a: https://www.tavernettaristorante.com

A little further, in the ancient village of San Teodoro, the offer is very varied, and there are also many nightclubs.

Wide choice for all tastes around Villa Gaviel, and don’t forget, in less than half an hour by car, you can also reach Porto Rotondo and Porto Cervo.

And…. enjoy your meal!
