SPORTS AND EXCURSION
Follow your passions, discover new ones. Interested in sailing lessons, diving, or SUP? Here are some ideas for you:
During your stay at Villa Gaviel, you can enjoy the waves without even leaving home. Float on your inflatable mattress or snorkel in the cove right below the Villa. It’s a rejuvenating swim but remember to stay close to the shore where the seabed is more beautiful, and you can spot many fish.
If you dream of feeling the breeze on your face and the sway of the sea, you could rent a zodiac at Porto Istana beach. The watercraft is always up-to-date, and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Check: http://www.mare-azzurro.net/
For surfing enthusiasts or curious beginners, head to Marina Maria Beach, just a few minutes away. It’s a long stretch of sand with a small and delightful pond behind it and pleasant currents for safe play. The surfing school is right on the beach next to the Marina Maria Beach windsurf & bar. In the small town of Porto San Paolo, if you’re interested in sailing, you could contact the Italian Sailing League.
Would you like to take a kayak tour with friends or family, maybe at sunset? In that case, I suggest https://orangebay.it/ –

Your guide will give you all the details to experience this unique adventure with breathtaking landscapes, colors, and scents. I assure you, when you reach the top, or even if you decide to stop halfway, the view is stunning. See: https://www.tavolaratrekking.
Per gli appassionati di golf, vicino a te il campo di Puntaldia, un percorso a 9 buche “sfidante” a picco sul mare, panorama strepitoso ad ogni buca. https://www.golfclubpuntaldia.
Right at Villa Gaviel,
treat yourself to special hours with your yoga instructor, Eiirin, directly at Villa Gaviel or in splendid locations. But don’t forget to book: http://www.yogawitheirinn.com
would you like to have bicycles delivered to your doorstep at Villa Gaviel?
And finally, after your day, you could book some fantastic massages at home or at the wonderful Li Cuncheddi Center, less than 2 km from the Villa.
All of this is possible during your stay at Villa Gaviel but be prepared; availability is limited during certain periods.
Excursions for all tastes, all ages, and all seasons
Sardinia has a thousand facets to appreciate throughout the year and for every type of traveler. Want to get to know this magnificent land, rich in traditions, music, flavors, and unique scents? Here are a couple of suggestions, and I’ll let you know that at Villa Gaviel, you’ll find an updated book on events for the period. An incredible event is the Cavalcata Sarda
During your stay at Villa Gaviel, in addition to excursions to discover Tavolara and the Marine Protected Area, which you can find on the dedicated page, here are some other options within reach. The small town of Olbia is a first taste of the area with its historic center and waterfront equipped with games and sports equipment. Park at Molo Brin, where events and concerts are often held within a splendid setting.
To appreciate the local culture, a few kilometers from Villa Gaviel to the south, take a moment to visit the small village of San Teodoro, an ancient typical village of Sardinia. It’s interesting for the history it tells and pleasant for the colorful local craft shops, including those of the famous Cerasarda. During the summer months, the center becomes pedestrianized and hosts numerous stalls with local products, for your most original purchases and not just culinary ones. The San Teodoro area is also beautiful during the day; see the splendid “Brandinchi” beach (remember to book) and the famous “Cinta,” both fabulous for families. From a naturalistic point of view, don’t miss the large lagoon with resident birdlife; walk along the small paths, and you might “meet” various species of birds, including the wonderful pink flamingos, in their natural environment.
One of the most authentic experiences to live in Sardinia is the festivals in the typical villages of the hinterland, an opportunity to see the original Sardinian costumes still used by the population, welcoming and friendly, and taste local delicacies, Sardinian sweets, wines, and of course typical liqueurs, with Mirto di Sardegna standing out among them all. You’ll discover that every Sardinian sweet has a unique and irresistible flavor, and the same goes for every bottle of Mirto, each reflecting the characteristics of the fragrant plant from which it’s obtained.
Visit the famous Nuraghes, ancient millennia-old fortress-houses unique in their kind, scattered throughout the territory. Sardinia has historical roots dating back to ancient times. To date, 7,000 nuraghes have been discovered, but visiting one is enough to understand the grandeur of these prehistoric works.
Near you, there are also the giant’s tombs. To visit the famous nuragic complex of Su Nuraxi in Barumini, dating back 2000 years and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you’ll need at least a whole day. For info, click here.
From Villa Gaviel, in less than a one-hour drive, you can easily reach the renowned resorts of Porto Rotondo or Porto Cervo. Here, between outdoor aperitifs and pleasant walks along the pier, you can immerse yourself in a magical atmosphere. The road is very scenic, and you can enjoy incredible different emotions at every turn depending on the time of day. One certainty: you’ll see numerous incredible yachts and sailboats of unimaginable dimensions that seem to have gathered in the harbors. A tip: roll down the window to appreciate the scents of the Mediterranean scrub.
For a day trip among the fishing villages, I wouldn’t miss heading south to visit Cala Gonone. with the splendid Grotta del Bue Marino departing from the beautiful marina of Cala Gonone. It’s special and very entertaining for families with children.
On the western coast, instead, I suggest a day in Alghero, a historic seaside town known as the “capital of coral.”
Talk to Gabriella; she knows and loves the area and Sardinia perfectly: she’ll be happy to help you create your perfect stay.
